Death
In Death, I used four wooden plates, each carrying 28 tiles. The number of plates, i.e., four, symbolizes death, as ‘four’ and ‘death’ are pronounced very similarly in Taiwanese and chinese. Moreover I left four blank white tiles on each plate. While attending to the effect of movement of each image, such as wiping my face up and down, and move my head apart, death is also hinted by the four blank tiles. In addition, Death as a piece of work on the whole carries the emotions of suffering, helplessness and exhaustion, and the last plate, death, for being a pure blank. This image above is a documentation at “Trace” Exhibition at Woburn Place in 2007.
